value\u201d and \u201cfair value\u201d (commonly used in financial reporting standards) are generally compatible; however, they are not identical in all cases.<\/p>\n<p>Fair value is an accounting concept defined in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and similar frameworks as the price that would be received to sell an asset or paid to transfer a liability in an orderly transaction between knowledgeable and willing parties.<\/p>\n<p>Fair value under IFRS is applied for the following purposes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>revaluation of property, plant and equipment;<\/li>\n<li>preparation of financial statements;<\/li>\n<li>initial recognition of assets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fair value less costs to sell is the amount obtainable from the sale of an income-generating asset or cash-generating unit in an orderly transaction between knowledgeable and willing parties, less the costs of
